That may surprise you, but beer is the most common alcoholic beverage in Lithuania.

The microbrewery scene in Lithuania has been growing in later years, with a number of bars focusing on these beers popping up in Vilnius and in other parts of the country. Local beers have started to attract international attention after beer bloggers discovered the country. But that is only one side of the story.

Lithuania can also introduce to you another side of beers as farmhouse brewing survived to a greater extent in Lithuania than anywhere else, saving old style beer such as raw (tekintas), baked (keptinis), stone (akmeninis). The farmhouse brews, mostly located in northern part of the country, are highly distinctive, use local ingredients and techniques from past generations.
